Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: A committee of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), set up on the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari, submitted its report on Thursday regarding the alleged malpractices and negligence by some doctors of the Doctor’s Hospital Lahore in treating three-year-old girl Imanae Malik.

The probe committee headed by Dow University of Health Sciences Vice Chancellor Dr Masood Hameed also included Dr Syed Muhammad Awais, Abdul Ghaffar Nagi, Zahid Hussain Khalil and Shafiq-ur-Rehman.

It reviewed the records of treatment provided to Imanae Malik and examined other evidence related to the case.

President Asif Ali Zardari had instructed the Ministry of Health and PMDC on Wednesday to probe the incident and work out a plan to end the increasing negligence in treatment of patients in hospitals.

The president issued these instructions after taking notice of two recent incidents of negligence in medical treatment; one in Doctor’s Hospital Lahore in Lahore and the other in the Pakistan Institute Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.
